Is the Bible Obscene?

I recently commented on a story I read on Raw Story in which I quoted six scriptures. The scriptures were apparently deemed to have violated the community standards as too sexually explicit and were promptly removed. A picture of Jesus flipping the bird, posted by another person, remained. The story starts with Jennifer Meeks.

Jennifer Meeks is the spouse of an Arkansas State Representative and she has made it her goal and mission to remove “terrible books” in some of those cute roadside “Little Free Libraries”. She then replaces these books with Bibles instead. This, according to the Arkansas Times.

Why? Apparently she saw several pro LGBTQ favorable books in a few of the libraries and determined, and I quote her, “there’s a group of leftists, especially in Conway, who are very active in keeping little libraries well stocked”.

Thinking what’s good for the goose is good for the gander, I guess, she made a plan to introduce Bibles, Bible tracts and Bible story books she acquired from flea markets into these libraries while removing anything “sexually explicit”. No harm, no foul, except for the fact she was taking material away she just planned to destroy, rather than use. This, in my opinion, is just not nice.

I actually found this personally reprehensible and nearly tantamount to theft. But if her goal is to eliminate sexually explicit material she’s not really accomplishing that mission by replacing these books with Bibles. I pointed out how explicit the Bible can be, after reading this report on Raw Story, by adding this exact comment as shown below:

Better include a razor blade with each of those bibles because here are just a few of the passages due for excision:

“You also took the fine jewelry I gave you, the jewelry made of my gold and silver, and you made for yourself male idols and engaged in prostitution with them.” (Ezekiel 16:17)

“If two men, a man and his countryman, are struggling together, and the wife of one comes near to deliver her husband from the hand of the one who is striking him, and puts out her hand and seizes his genitals, then you shall cut off her hand; you shall not show pity.” (Deuteronomy 25:11–12)

“When she carried on her whoring so openly and flaunted her nakedness, I turned in disgust from her, as I had turned in disgust from her sister. Yet she increased her whoring, remembering the days of her youth, when she played the whore in the land of Egypt and lusted after her lovers there, whose members were like those of donkeys, and whose issue was like that of horses. Thus you longed for the lewdness of your youth, when the Egyptians handled your bosom and pressed your young breasts.” (Ezekiel 23:18–21)

“A loving doe, a graceful deer — may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be intoxicated with her love.” (Proverbs 5:19)

“Say to David, ‘The king wants no other price for the bride than a hundred Philistine foreskins, to take revenge on his enemies.’” (1 Samuel 18:20–30)

“So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went in and slept with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up. So both of Lot’s daughters became pregnant by their father.” (Genesis 19:35)

The entire book of Song of Solomon or Song of Songs.

Except for my one sentence at the very beginning, the entire comment was all scriptures copied and pasted straight out of the Bible! Am I to conclude the Bible is an X-rated racy book? Hmm…thoughts?
